mother's day in the big d

We hadn't been to Dallas since Thanksgiving so we were long overdue for a trip. We drove up Thursday night, saw all the updates my parents have done to their new house, and had dinner on their beautiful patio. Friday we all went to the Perot Science Museum and new Bush Presidential Library. We also had lunch in between at S&D Oyster, one of our fave Dallas spots.

The Perot Museum was, as my dad put it, "thousands of loud and rambunctious  elementary and middle-school children rushing pass the visual exhibits." It was chaos! We literally had to fight to see anything so we only spent about an hour in there. Justin pointed out that the architecture of the building was more interesting than the exhibits themselves. They had the typical dinosaurs on display, focus on the earth and solar system, lots of animals and sections on gems & minerals and oil & gas & energy.

(I didn't take my big camera so please excuse the poor quality in these pics!)

The Bush Presidential Library was beautiful and there were no children running around! The museum was a chronological visual history of the Bush presidency including warm videos, dresses worn by Laura, letters to/from him to other famous people, an exact replica of the Oval office, and more. We enjoyed it. The only let down was the museum shop.

Particularly touching to me was the 9-11 room and wall of names including a piece of one of the towers.

That night we met our dear family friend, Angie, and her son, Niles, at Uncle Julio's - a family fave restaurant for us since the early 90s.

Saturday morning we got up and had coffee on the patio. My mom has the greenest thumb of anyone I know and her plants are garden are gorgeous!

Her lemon tree has over 20 baby lemons growing so far!

After running around town and shopping for maternity and baby clothes all day, we headed home to enjoy the patio once again and have chicken and avocado soup with fresh cilantro from the garden. Dad and Justin had a potato vodka tasting. That's a LOT of shots!

Sunday we took Mom to brunch and headed back to Dallas. Happy Mother's Day, Mom! We had a great weekend!
