our trip to the zoo

We woke up this morning to beautiful sunny skies and 70 degrees and thought it would be the perfect day to check out the Houston Zoo. Since Savannah was born (in September) I haven't used my Canon digital SLR - I am embarrassed to say I have been using my iPhone as a camera because I have been so busy and never seem to have enough hands to carry anything extra. But, I have decided I'm going to make an effort to get back into because the photos are so much better! And I love photography as a hobby. So, I took had a great time taking pics of all the animals at the zoo today so we can show Savannah when she gets older (because we all know there's no way she'll remember this trip!)

The zoo is right in the middle of a large park and it seemed like everyone with children was out enjoying it today!

First stop, sea lions.

Next: meerkats!

Then it was on to the elephants. This one is pregnant and due any day now. We learned that elephants are often pregnant for up to 22 months! That made me feel very thankful to have only been pregnant for 9 months!

Savannah was awake and alert the entire time. We think she may have enjoyed the outdoors and beautiful weather more than the actual animals.

Next we made a stop by the komodo dragon before moving on to some crazy (fighting) cat skunk looking animals (not sure what they were exactly but they were interesting to watch and photograph!) and then the lions and tigers.

The giraffes were so much fun!

On our way out we visited the birds and flamingos as the zoo keepers were releasing some babies.

What a perfect way to spend a gorgeous day!
